Rain, rain... go away

On campus there is the yearly tradition of drowning out the freshman. Not only do the students make it their duty to bomb out the students with water guns, water balloons and the afore mentioned devices filled with rather interesting and disgusting concoctions. But, the weather seems to take this tradition very seriously.

Although it isn't nearly august, the summer session has begun. I was wondering why it was that it was raining so much. Wait... allow me to clarify. It hasn't been raining, it's been pouring! When suddenly I realized all the really smart freshmen, the ones who got early admissions and are starting their torture run from the summer (what I did when I started college, by taking 6 credits that first summer) will soon begin. Therefore the campus has to look its finest... you know all muddy, wet, gray and miserable. Not to mention that the freshmen also have to come and meet their appointments at the financial aid offices.

Forget about the fact that its hurricane season and there happens to be a tropical storm making its way around the caribbean. Let us also forget that I live on a tropical island where most of the forests on it are considered rain forests. (Seriously! There is only one dry forest and two temperate forests where it is neither dry or wet on this god-forsaken island.)

So the rain season has started and in full force. Then some people actually wonder why it is that I actually made the investment of getting rainboots. Obviously they have never had the adventureous fortune of having to go up or down the Calvario when its raining. Those perilous stairs with the mango showering upon you like bombs then turn into one torrential waterfall. If you aren't careful, you can actually lose a flip flop or something. I almost did once but it got caught on debri and i managed to save it. Good thing too... I would not have liked to walk home barefoot. I have only done that once and I was drunk off my arse at the time.

Why did I suddenly feel inspired to write this impromptu tirade on the rain, well because it is pouring! Why else? i have not seen it rain this much in a really long time. Sure it rained yesterday, and the day before... and the day before that. But nothing compared to today. And today probably won't compare how bad it will rain tomorrow or the day after that.

So although my leafy nature has me loving the rain... my grouchy student self who is hating waking up early and taking an evil calculus class at an ungodly hour of the morning is in no mood for the rain, thunder and lightening. It only makes me think that the world around me is just as miserable as I am.

If it makes you feel any better I got stuck in the mud in my own house. Yes, my left foot got stuck in the mud in my own backyard. Almost lost a flip flop in that. :P
