Recognition (They love me, the love me, they really love me!)

While I was hanging around in the Canning Electron microscopy workshop, someone just walked right up to me and asked me if I was Sonja's chemist. For a moment all I could do was blink at the girl. That was the last thing I expected someone to ask me. I mean, as my mother would say it, I was geeking out with a whole bunch of scientists... not with the literary crowd that usually goes to the open mike nights where I voice my scientific poetry.

Once i regained myself after the shock, I smiled and nodded but first I clarified it. That, yes, I could be considered Sonja's chemist. (Sonja Mongar being the professor in charge of the literary magazine pastiche and, hence, the one in charge of the open mikes.) Although I have never taken class with her. I was merely one of the honorary english majors. Like i had stated at the first open mike "i'm not an english major but I play one on TV." Most english professors think I'm an english major. Even the director of the department thought I was one until recently.

So maybe I do spend more time in the english department than I do in the chemistry department. Though I love dearly what I study, I have a lot more in common with the literature majors. Therefore I am always hanging out with them in their space.

This girl smiled and then proceeded to tell me that she really liked my work... though all she had heard from me were my poems on Romance novels. She happened to have gone to every other open mike and only been around for those, missing out on my poetry on chemistry. But, she continued to tell me, she had heard all about me and from what was said I must be pretty good.

There you have it! I was recognized. Who would have thought of that? As vain as I am... since I am the goddess... I had never envisioned someone just coming up to me and complimenting me on my work. It was a nice feeling.
